Blog #7

This semester has been a ride, I've had my ups and downs in each class. I can say I gained a lot of knowledge from my classmates, and professors. This semester helped see who I really was, and what I was cable of doing on my own. When I was in High School I never really studied for any of my quizzes, test, or exams, I would just pray that I passed the year, but I know I definitely change because I was even doing flashcards to study for my exams. For my first semester back to college, I can I am very proud of myself, I was proud of my grade, even if it was a seventy because I know I put my time and effort to get that seventy. I know it sounds silly, why would anyone in their right mind be proud to have a seventy in class? Well, I was proud because I saw a change in myself, and I actually worked hard for that seventy. Throughout the semester I got to learn my weakness, and I got the chance to make an effort to change my weakness. Some of my weakness where that at the b...

La La Land

Image
Christopher ORR from The Atlantic, in his review of "The Novelty and Nostalgia of La La Land" offered a positive review of the film La La Land. I agree with Christopher ORR, because La La Land is one of the best movie musicals I have ever seen. La La Land is such a moving movie, the movie alone is very colorful, beautiful bur at the same time realistic. The article states the following, "Just 31 years old, Chazelle has reinvigorated the big-screen musical by embracing the present while paying tribute to the past, by balancing irony and innocence, novelty and nostalgia." I strongly agree with this statement because this film took me off my feet, had me dancing and singing with them. This film can inspire anyone struggling with: finding who they really are, who can not find a job, or learning how to let go of someone you truly love. La La Land, makes you realize how life is never easy, how they will always be obstacles in life and you just have to learn how to fight...

Summer At Good Ol Timby

Image
Last summer, in 2017, I spent two months as a volunteer in Michigan, in a camp called Timber Wolf Lake, and let me tell ya'll it was the BEST summer ever. When I first signed up to be a volunteer I honestly did not know I was going to experience all of this, I just figured it was going to be an easy job and it was just going to be a free vacation with people I have never meet. At camp I was a am cook, and I'm not going to lie, I hated waking up every morning at five-thirty to be ready in the kitchen by six am. The first week was not that bad but doing this routine for two months was half of the hardest thing I had to do but, yes let me not lie we all ended up kind of getting used to it. Working in the kitchen was so much pain that we had freezer breaks- by freezer breaks, I mean we would go cry and scream in the freezer for like one minute and then  get out because it was super cold. I honestly feel that my job was super hard, I was at the frying station which meant I wa...

Amanda Petrusich

Image
In Amanda Petrusich "The Lofty Optimism of Spotify And the Influence of The Streaming Revolution", she talks about how she dislikes streaming music, how business had expanded, and how Amanda also understands why people rather use Spotify. Amanda's main topic/thesis is that Spotify is not trustworthy, and that she rather stick with what she really knows, when it comes to listing to music. Amanda states the following, "I don't stream music." This evidence lets us know how Amanda strongly feels about streaming music, and as we further read the article we get to understand her point of view for not streaming music. The next thing is that Amanda noticed that the company, Spotify, is also expanding their business. "The company's prospectus includes lofty goals:"Our mission is to unlock the potential of human creativity by giving a million creative artists the opportunity to live off their art and billions of fan the opportunity to enjoy and be in...

Hobbies

Image
My hobbies are very important for me: I am doing something I love, have a strong passion for and it just gives me a break from my classes and gives me a break from life. I have three major hobbies and they are: Bible study, Young Life and Breakaway. As you can see all of my hobbies have to do with religion, and yes, that is the reason they mean a lot to me. Religion is my biggest hobby, and your hobby is something you do with pleasure, and well I do all my hobbies with pleasure. My first hobby I go to is Bible study, and it is every Monday, at seven pm. What we do at Bible study is read the bible, discuss what we just read, and just talk about life with Christ. They also teach you how to read the Bible if you do not know how. When I was in Houston, I would go to Young Life every Tuesday and it would be the most amazing night! What we would do at Young Life is, for the first hour and half we sing songs, play games, and our leaders do small plays- that are honestly hilarious. After that ...

Exam #1

Exam number one was not very different from exam number two. They were very similar, just different lessons we learned. Something I did differently was that this time I didn't study with any of my classmates, for the last exam we meet up for a study group and we also Houseparty. I would say it kind of worked for me, but when we were in the study group we all helped each other, we would quiz each other and see where we needed the most help on-not only that, but it was also fun to hangout outside of class. Although, this time I studied by myself, that gave me more chance to focus on what I needed to learn the most, which helped me a lot when it came to my study methods. My first method was flashcards, I've never been good at using flashcards, because I just thought they were lame, but when I use it for this exam I can say it actually helped. My second method was just reading out loud my notes and reviewing them until my eyes fall out. Someth...

About Me

My name is Amy Alvarado, I'm twenty years old and I'm from Houston Texas. To describe my family, I would have to say they are very loud, they love to party and live life at the fullest. My mother is the typical Hispanic mom, who swears she knows it all, the one that can fix my sickness without taking me to the doctor, but I will always owe my life to her. My dear sister is the sweetest child one can ever meet, she has such a big heart and that's something I love about her. Although, my family is super amazing, I cannot forget the best family member ever that we have which is my dog! Her name is Bells, and she is by far the best out of my family, she is so lovable, and the best dog ever. I honestly believe I have the best family ever, I love how we can just communicate with each other, and even if we have problems we will find a way to fix it. The reason I'm at Blinn is to save up enough money before I transfer to Texas A&M University. My experience at Blinn so far i...
